ASCHA Meeting Results 10/14/06
The general membership meeting of the Alabama State Coonhunters Association was called to order at 2:10 p.m. on October 14, 2006 by Micky Gilmore. Micky opened the meeting with a word of prayer. Micky said that Amber Bradford would now read the minutes from our last meeting. Amber read the minutes, Jamie Perrin made a motion that we accept the minutes as read, Joe East seconded the motion and all approved. Amber then gave the treasurers report which said that we have $1515.01 in the bank. Amber also said that the reason for the low balance is that all fees, trophies, building rent, and so on had been made for the state championship; and that we had already made enough money from the event to cover all the cost and some show entries and all nite hunt entries from Saturday’s hunt would be pure profit. Jamie Perrin made a motion that we accept the minutes as read, Cohill seconded the motion, and all approved.
Micky then opened the floor for old business. No one had any old business but Micky said that there had been a change in the AKC Alabama State Championship. The event was still going to be held in Ozark Alabama by the Heat of Dixie CHA but the date was moved. Due to the availability of AKC field reps on the original date AKC had decided that it would be best to move the event. The event will now be held the 3rd weekend in February. It will be a one night hunt and has a $1000.00 added purse. Micky also brought up the issue of making the UKC Alabama State Championship a mini-slam event. This had been previously discussed at the Hall of Fame hunt and it was decided to wait until the state hunt to bring it to a vote. He talked about how even though we had moved the event to the middle of the state the entries were still horrible and actually worse than the last two state championships that were held in the south. There was a lot of discussion about making it the only UKC event in the state for that weekend…this has been discussed several times. Amber talked about how the only way it was possible was for some clubs to give up event dates or possibly try to get new dates but due to their being so many clubs in the state that it is really not possible. It was then brought up that he felt that people would come to hunt for the money and that the ASCHA would not have to spend the money on trophies but could use that money towards an added purse. Dana Reaid made a motion that we do a one year trial of making the state hunt a mini-slam. Mason Kugler seconded the motion. Twenty-four people were for the motion and it passed. This was all the old business.
New business was the next thing on the agenda. Election of officers was the next agenda on the list. Micky said that before we start the election process that he would like to say a few words. He talked about how people get elected to these positions and that they never show up to help out at the events.
He said that we basically only had five people on the board that ever showed up to do the work and that if we all did not start coming together to help out that eventually there would be no ASCHA and no one to help fight the anti-hunters. With that said we opened the floor for nominations for president. Cohill nominated Elmore Dorough and he quickly declined the nomination. Jamie Perrin made a motion that we keep Micky Gilmore on as President, Joe East seconded the motion, and all approved. The next office was the office of vice-President. Elmore Dorough nominated Ben Fletcher, Doug Bradford seconded the nomination. Jamie Perrin then nominated Dana Reaid, Tommy Cunningham seconded the nomination. These two men were asked to step outside so that the membership could vote. Micky said that he wanted to say a few things before we vote. He said that our Secretary/Treasurer would be resigning this year and that Dana had expressed interest in taking that position. So everyone voted and Ben Fletcher became the new Vice-President. The position of Secretary/Treasurer was the next position up for nomination. Amber Bradford said that she would like to nominate Dana Reaid for the office of Secretary/Treasurer, Doug Bradford seconded the motion. There were no more nominations for the position…Dana Reaid is you new Secretary/Treasurer. Board Member elections were the next thing on the docket. We had two board members that there term was expiring and there were two board members that were being removed for missing two consecutive meetings. Amber then explained the election process to everyone and we opened the floor for nominations. Dana Reaid nominated Mason Kugler, Elmore Dorough nominated Tommy Hewitt, Dana Reaid nominated Terry Byrd, and Amber Bradford nominated Doug Bradford…no other nominations were made. Joe East made a motion that these men be our new board members, Ben Fletcher seconded the motion, and all approved.
Ben Fletcher then brought up the article that used to be in the Coonhound Bloodlines. Amber said that she no longer did it because no one would ever send her information and she was tired of writing the same thing over and over. Ben said that he would be interested in doing the article and Amber said that she would send him all the information he would need to do it. Jamie Perrin said that he would like for everyone to give Amber Bradford a hand for the job she has done as the Secretary/Treasurer of the ASCHA. Amber then got up and said that she wanted to thank everyone for allowing her to serve as the Secretary/Treasurer for four years and that she hated to resign but she just did not have the time to do it anymore. Micky Gilmore then made a motion that we adjourn, Ben Fletcher seconded the motion, and all approved. The meeting was adjourned around 3:00 p.m.

Micky then asked if anyone had any old business and no one did. He then opened the floor for new business. Amber Bradford brought up the upcoming UKC Youth Nationals and that they were looking for sponsors for lights to be given away to the kids. Amber thought it would be a good idea to do one from the Alabama State Coonhunters Association since it was just a $65.00 donation. Jamie made a motion that we do this, Dana Reaid seconded the motion, and all approved. Micky then brought up that we were going to have an AKC and a UKC State Championship. And that the AKC State Championship would be hosted by the Heart of Dixie Coonhunters Association in Ozark, AL. It would be the first weekend in November and that AKC was donating a $500.00 added purse. The ASCHA would receive 25% of the profits from this event, and if the event was successful that the ASCHA could possibly take it over next year and move it to Clanton. Dana Reaid made a motion that we do this, Amber Bradford seconded the motion, and all approved.
The UKC Alabama State was the next thing on the agenda. It was going to be hosted by the ASCHA and would b the second weekend in October in Clanton. The issue of the kitchen was brought up and clubs from that area that had hosted the event in the past said that it was easiest to just let someone else do it and keep the profits. Amber Bradford made a motion that we do that, Doc Hamm seconded the motion, and all approved. Elmore Dorough said that he knew a church that would be interested in doing and that he would get them in touch with Micky Gilmore. Micky then brought up the idea of making the 2 nite hunts mini-slam events. There was a lot of discussion about this and Joe East made a motion that we vote on the subject. The motion was made that we leave the event as is and see how it does and have the possibility of making it a mini-slam next year. Doc Hamm seconded the motion and all approved.
Amber Bradford said that before we close that she would like to make a motion that the ASCHA always donate $200.00 to the host club of the Alabama State Youth Championship to help with the expenses since the clubs set the entry fees really low. Doc Hamm made a motion that we do this, Elmore seconded the motion, and all approved. Micky Gilmore then made a motion that we adjourn the meeting, Jamie Perrin seconded the motion, and all approved. The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 PM.
